Founded in 1999, Sonoran Desert School (SDS) is a chartered public high school serving ninth through twelfth grande students in the East Mesa. SDS is accredited by the North Central Association and offers an accelerated curriculum featuring individualized instruction, self-paced study, and the integration of technology. The instructional program at SDS is aligned with the Arizona Academic Standards and mixes individual study with small group activities and large group discussions. Students have daily access to computer applications and information technology, both of which are integrated with required courses. Because of its flexibility and emphasis on content mastery, the SDS program appeals to students who are either behind in their academic credits or students who have the ability and desire to complete their high school credits at an accelerated pace.
